So what is the real benefit of having facials?

Posted by Haley Asbridge on

70% of your skin results are from what you do at home every day (your skin nutrition) and 30% are from in salon treatments.  If you can do both, that is ideal and if you can only do one or the other, then cosmeceutical and medical grade skincare is the best place to start.

How do I know what facial is best?

It’s easy to become overwhelmed by the skincare jargon. There are so many different variants of facials now, it’s harder and harder to keep up.

A good skincare therapist will recommend what is best suited to your skin, create a bespoke facial and give you a personalised plan and advice to ensure you get the best results possible.

At Mooi Skin we like to focus on the complete experience when treating clients, combining both old-school skincare and relaxation techniques with clinical know-how to deliver the best results. Your facial may include several components such as an enzyme exfoliation or a peel, a face mask, massage, light therapy or collagen induction therapy.  We have a huge variety of skincare treatments and products to suit all skins and get you your desired results.

What is best for my skin? Machines or hands on treatments?

A combination of both is best in my opinion.

Stress is a big factor in ageing so we combine our advanced machine based treatments with hands on relaxation techniques to give you the best of both worlds.

I often compare skincare and facials to diet and exercise.  They go hand in hand and both benefit each other!  Together they are  the perfect combination to achieve your best skin.

There are so many different types of machines on the market and they are not all created equal.  LED lights is a great example of this. A great quality FDA approved LED machine makes the skin glow, increases hyaluronic acid and collagen and gives fantastic long lasting results in the skin.  Some machines of  low quality will not get you the result you are after. It could be just as beneficial to hang the Christmas tree lights over your face.  You will be able to see and feel the results of effective regular treatments. Don’t hesitate to ask your therapist the background of what they are using and why they have chosen this  for your skin.

What results can I expect from a facial

A facial works to improve the overall appearance of your skin while targeting specific skin concerns.

Facials are a wonderful way to thoroughly address particular concerns that crop up, as well as a good way to maintain the youthfulness of the skin and overall skin health.

Post-facial, expect smoother skin texture, brighter more refined skin, and an overall radiance with less congestion and breakouts. Ideally, I recommend a facial once per month  to maintain your skin with a course of treatments once per year to keep the skin in the best possible condition(see my  blog on DIY facials if you are unable to make time for an appointment this frequently).
