FAQs
Is SkinPen the same as a DermaPen?
No. While DermaPen is a commonly used device, we use SkinPen — an FDA-cleared microneedling device chosen for incredible precision, safety, and clinically-proven results. It’s truly next-level.
Is Spicule Liquid Microneedling the same as traditional microneedling?
Not quite.
Traditional microneedling uses a device with metal needles to create controlled injury in the skin.
Spicule Liquid Microneedling (also called bio-microneedling) uses microscopic spicules derived from freshwater sea sponges to stimulate collagen — without metal needles or puncture bleeding.
It’s a different approach to the same goal: stronger, smoother, more refined skin.
How many treatments will I need?
You’ll start to notice improvements after 1–2 sessions, but for best results, we recommend a course of 4–6 treatments. From there, a couple of maintenance treatments per year can help keep your collagen levels up and skin looking healthy.
What does feel like?
You’ll feel a light buzzing or prickling sensation — totally manageable, but not as relaxing as a facial. Some areas (like around the mouth or eyes) can be more sensitive. We can apply numbing cream beforehand if requested.
What’s the pre-treatment prep?
Avoid active skincare (AHAs or BHAs), harsh exfoliation, and direct sun for at least 3–5 days before your appointment. Let us know if you're on any medication or have had cosmetic injectables recently.
What’s the post-treatment care?
Your skin will be red and a little warm after, like a light sunburn (this usually settles in 24–48 hours). Skip makeup, exercise and active skincare for a few days, and we’ll also recommend some specific calming, hydrating products to support healing and collagen production.
