Is Spicule Liquid Microneedling the same as traditional microneedling?
Not quite.
Traditional microneedling uses a device with metal needles to create controlled injury in the skin.
Spicule Liquid Microneedling (also called bio-microneedling) uses microscopic spicules derived from freshwater sea sponges to stimulate collagen — without metal needles or puncture bleeding.
It’s a different approach to the same goal: stronger, smoother, more refined skin.
How Many Treatments will I need?
This depends on your skin goals.
Some clients love it as a standalone glow-boosting reset.
For collagen or Scarring we would recommend 4-6 or potentially layering them with other modalities.
Your therapist will guide you on what’s right for your skin.
Will I peel or have downtime after my treatment?
Yes but it will not stop you from doing day to day activities or working as it is mild. Light to moderate peeling is expected.
Peeling can begin anywhere from 2–7 days after treatment and may last up to 7 days, depending on your skin type and how your skin renews.
Some clients experience very mild flaking.
Others notice more visible shedding.
This is part of the accelerated renewal process.
What does it feel like?
You’ll feel a warming, prickly or slightly “spicy” sensation during and after treatment — this is normal and expected.
The sensation settles as the spicules dissolve naturally within the skin over 48–72 hours.
What’s the pre-treatment prep?
Avoid active skincare (AHAs or BHAs), harsh exfoliation, and direct sun for at least 3–5 days before your appointment. Let us know if you're on any medication or have had cosmetic injectables recently.
What’s the post-treatment care?
Your skin will be red and a little warm after, like a light sunburn (this usually settles in 24–48 hours). Skip makeup, exercise and active skincare for a 48 hour, and we’ll also recommend some specific calming, hydrating products to support healing and collagen production.
