Dryness (lacking oil)

Dry skin craves more oil, not water.

Dry skin is a true skin type: it’s something you’re born with or naturally prone to. It’s caused by a lack of sebum, your skin’s own nourishing oil that helps lock in moisture and protect the barrier.

When skin doesn’t produce enough oil, it can feel rough, tight, or flaky. You might notice dullness, irritation, or redness — especially in cooler months or after using products that strip the skin. Cold weather, air conditioning, over-exfoliation & harsh cleansers can all make dryness worse.

Breakouts are also common with dry skin, because when oil production ramps up to compensate, it can mix with dead skin cells and inflammation — leading to clogged pores.
